exhibition: "A Legacy of Design Innovation: 150+ Beyond"
Shepley Bulfinch tapped Wide Eyed to co-curate and design a custom exhibit celebrating its milestone 150th anniversary of continuous practice. There were two major drivers for this project: a short three month timeline from start to open, and the goal to travel the exhibition after its premiere in Boston. We hopped on the first flight to Boston to visit the firm's archives and get the gears turning.
‘A Legacy of Design Innovation: 150+ Beyond’ was hosted at The Boston Architectural College’s (BAC) McCormick Gallery to celebrate the firm’s forward-thinking buildings and spaces that have inspired living, learning, and healing since1874. The exhibit traced the evolution of Shepley Bulfinch, starting with its formation in Brookline by Henry Hobson Richardson. The opening reception welcomed Shepley staff, alumni, clients, BAC faculty and students, and the greater Boston community to explore their legacy of design innovation.
Special thanks to Karen Nelson and XXX with the BAC for your support and guidance.
Thank you to our mighty team with Shepley – Emily, Michelle, and Robert – for all of the late nights, good vibes, and commitment to quality!

Shepley Bulfinch’s brand mantra,“Design beyond what’s expected,”expresses the spirit of the firm’s aspirations and process — and served as a guiding principle for exhibit design and content.
Exhibit graphic style was also informed by Shepley’s custom font, giving a nod to the firm’s belief that the spaces in between are just as important as the structures that surround them.
